Existing Sports Prototype Cup and Zeo Prototypes series to merge into a new grid
Equipe Classic Racing to create ‘Equipe Sports Prototypes’
Multi-class prototype series calendar confirmed for 2025 with UK premium circuits. European series planned for 2026
Equipe Classic Racing has announced the creation of a multi-class prototype series and has reinforced its credentials by acquiring both the pan-European Sports Prototype Cup and UK-based Zeo Prototypes series rights.
The new Equipe Sports Prototypes will provide a multi-marque racing environment for lightweight sports prototype cars, bringing together the best of both series with new investment from this established race promoter. The goal is to build strong and diverse grids at top circuits, backed by Equipe Classic Racing’s professional customer service and premium paddock hospitality.
The Sports Prototype Cup started in 2019 with classes for Revolution and Radical models and an open class that featured entries for cars from other marques such as Praga, Norma and Ligier. Under the direction of Series Director James Bailey and the PitBox91 PR and Communications agency, the Cup grew rapidly, being invited to be a Formula 1 support race at the 2020 Portuguese and 2021 Italian Grands Prix.
The Zeo Prototype series started in 2021, attracting some of the fastest sports racing cars in British motorsport. Led by Grace Williams and supported by Zeo Intelligent Energy, it soon became an established British series.
Rob Cull, Equipe Classic Racing Partner said: “The acquisition of these two important series and combining them with our own ambitious plans for a new prototype series provides a stable long-term environment for existing prototype racers and for drivers and teams planning to invest in cars from the marques that will be eligible to race with us. Equipe Classic Racing is run by drivers for drivers, and this fits our strategy to grow in the contemporary racing market, building on our successful historic racing events”
“Creating a community of drivers, a premium club feel and camaraderie in the paddock are a high priority. Our 2025 calendar will feature the UK’s best circuits, including Silverstone Grand Prix, before expanding our reach into international events”.
James Bailey, current Sports Prototype Cup promoter and Director of the PitBox91 Communications agency stated: “As the Cup enters its seventh year, we wanted to ensure that our loyal drivers, teams and manufacturers had a strong, stable and forward-looking owner to take it to a new level. From the very first discussions with Equipe Classic Racing, it was clear that they had the infrastructure, investment plans and vision to create a brilliant new future for prototype racing. Ensuring that our customers, including our loyal manufacturer partners, have great events at the best circuits was a priority in this agreement. I'm excited about the Cup’s future with a new owner.
