B.R.M. Speed Award to reward drivers with most pole positions & fastest laps.
5 year agreement covering the Revolution UK & Radical SR3 Trophy
Luxury watch manufacturer B.R.M. and the UK Sports Prototype Cup have announced a partnership that will see the French based company appointed as Official Timing Partner.
As part of the agreement, B.R.M. will award limited edition chronographs to the fastest three drivers over the course of the season. This will be called the B.R.M. Speed Award. Drivers in both the the Radical SR3 Trophy and Revolution UK Trophy classes will be eligible for the coveted prizes which will be awarded based on a ranking of pole positions and fastest laps.
James Bailey, Cup Promoter, said: “We are honoured to have a prestigious and well-regarded luxury brand such as B.R.M. choose to partner with the Sports Prototype Cup. The B.R.M. Speed Award will give drivers a valuable prize to aim for, bringing a new dimension to the mix of Sprint of Endurance races in our inaugural calendar. In our conversations with B.R.M. it was clear that they share our vision in creating a premium, strongly promoted championship that treats the competitor as a customer”.
B.R.M was set up in 2003, born of the commitment and passion for precision mechanics nurtured by founder, Bernard Richards, from an early age. A motorcycle collector and lover of race cars, Bernard’s passion for racing shines through in his creations. He said: “The concept of having a ‘race within the race’ rather than open classes makes the Sports Prototype Cup very appealing. We are entering into a five year commitment with the B.R.M. Speed Award and we are excited about the ambitious growth plans for the Cup”.
The Sports Prototype Cup will race on top UK circuits including Silverstone, Brands Hatch (TBC) , Donington, Snetterton and Oulton Park. The season finale is scheduled at Portimao as a support race to the European Le Mans Series in October. The Cup will feature two classes, one for the well-proven Radical SR3 and one for the exciting new Revolution. The Revolution is a 3.7 litre, high downforce prototype with a carbon fibre chassis and will make its race debut in 2019.
