Revolution attracts multinational driver line-up to Portugal GP weekend

6th October 2020

Twenty drivers entered for Formula One support race

  • Two prime-time races on F1 weekend

  • Ten nationalities on high-quality grid

  • One grid slot still available

The Sports Prototype Cup’s Revolution trophy class will present its biggest ever grid in its short history later this month. The Cup was announced as an official support race to the FORMULA 1® HEINEKEN GRANDE PRÉMIO DE PORTUGAL 2020 a few weeks ago and this has driven unprecedented demand for the innovative Revolution A-One race car.

The Sports Prototype Cup Revolution Trophy, organised by PitBox91, will have two races at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve on 23-25 October. Both are in prime time slots, immediately after F1 qualifying on Saturday and just before the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Twenty drivers and seventeen 440 hp/tonne Revolution A-Ones are entered, with one grid slot remaining to be filled. This underlines the incredible progress made by the UK-based manufacturer since the company’s competition debut just over a year ago.

Heading the entry list will be 2020 Sports Prototype Cup race winners, Alex Kapadia and Morten Dons. However, there is a twist in their season-long rivalry. The two Le Mans Cup stars won’t be going head to head at this event and instead will share a car, competing in a race each. Kapadia has given glowing feedback on his Revolution experience:  "It's halfway between a Radical and LMP3...it's got masses of downforce".

Another driver with Le Mans experience competing in the GP weekend is Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy. Fresh from a second-place finish at Snetterton last month, he’s effusive about the car: "You could tell straight away it was a serious bit of kit. It's one of those cars you can jump in and it gives confidence to push".

Ten nationalities will be represented on the F1 support race grid including the first two USA-based Revolution agents entering cars. Fletcher Team USA Racing with Revolution and Esses Racing are spearheading the manufacturer’s transatlantic push.

Customers have been attracted by the Revolution’s carbon fibre chassis that complies with the latest FIA safety regulations and the advanced aerodynamics that have been honed to reward professional and amateur drivers alike.

After the Grand Prix, the final rounds of the 2020 Sports Prototype Cup featuring the Revolution Trophy will take place at another F1® approved circuit, Le Castellet, on November 7. Entries are still open for this event, which is also open to a wider range of sports prototype and GT type cars.

Quotes:

Phil Abbott, Managing Director, Revolution Race Cars: “The strength of the grid is impressive both in terms of numbers and team and driver quality. We only announced this race eight weeks ago and for twenty drivers to commit in such a short period of time provides us with a great platform ahead of the 2021 season.”

James Bailey, Director, PitBox91 and Promoter, Sports Prototype Cup: “The launch of this event has shone a spotlight on the brilliance of the Revolution A-One’s design and performance. We are proud to have a long-term agreement to grow this class. It’s helped us grow our grid size and sets us up well for our multi-class race at Le Castellet in November where other prototypes can also join.”
